Bright white teeth are a timeless characteristic of a beautiful smile. If genetics, coffee or wine stains, certain medications, tobacco use, or root canal therapy has dulled the color of your teeth, teeth whitening treatments provided by our Chicago-area practice can help you. Dr. Kenneth Coffey understands how important your smile can be to your self-esteem, and will work closely with you to tailor a whitening treatment to your individual needs. We offer both in-office and take-home treatments to give you the dazzling, healthy looking smile you desire. To learn more about how you can benefit from teeth whitening, please contact our Chicago-area office in Orland Park today.
Our in-office method of teeth whitening takes an hour and a half to complete. After a thorough cleaning of your teeth, we apply a whitening agent consisting of potassium nitrate and fluoride. This agent is not activated by exposure to an ultraviolet light like many other whitening brands; instead, this powerful formula eliminates deep stains on its own while strengthening your tooth enamel, promoting cavity prevention, and reducing tooth sensitivity. Immediately after treatment, you can expect to have a brighter, whiter smile.
If you prefer to whiten your teeth on your own time, we offer fully customized take-home whitening kits. Dr. Coffey will take an impression of your mouth, which will be used to create customized dental trays. These trays will be used to apply the whitening gel to your teeth overnight, but will prevent the gel from migrating to your gums. Depending on your needs, the potassium fluoride whitening gel is available in 10-percent, 15-percent, 20-percent, and 35-percent strengths. Dr. Coffey will provide specific instructions for placing the gel in the dental trays and wearing them overnight. After a single application, you will notice a whiter smile. You can expect to achieve optimal results in about a week.
After root canal therapy (the removal of pulp within a tooth to treat advanced decay), the dentin that makes up the remainder of the tooth becomes more susceptible to darkening. A preliminary X-ray at our office can confirm that the darkening of the tooth is a result of discolored dentin rather than decay fostered by an inadequate filling.
Dr. Coffey can place a whitening agent into the empty pulp chamber by removing the filling used to seal your tooth after the root canal procedure. This procedure may be repeated over the course of three to four visits in order to achieve the desired whiteness. After each application, a temporary filling will re-seal the tooth. Finally, the access hole is permanently restored with a composite resin.
If you are tired of hiding your smile because of darkened or stained teeth, we can help you! No matter what has caused your smile to lose its luster, Dr. Coffey can provide precisely the in-office or take-home treatment you need.
