Patients of all ages and walks of life can experience anxiety or pronounced sensitivity in the dentist’s chair. We offer sedation dentistry at our Orland Park area practice to help patients have a completely relaxing experience as we deliver the treatment they need. Oral conscious sedation can make you feel as if you are on the verge of deep sleep for the duration of your treatment. At the end of your appointment, you will have few, if any, memories of your experience, and you can leave our office with a healthier, more beautiful smile! To learn more about sedation dentistry, contact the Orland Park office of Dr. Kenneth Coffey.
If you have historically experienced anxiety at the dentist’s office, or if you are especially sensitive to the tools and techniques involved in dental care, you can obviously benefit from being relaxed and sedate during treatment. However, another important benefit of sedation dentistry is that it allows Dr. Coffey and his staff to better serve you. In short, a calm and relaxed patient is much easier to treat than a patient who is especially anxious or uncomfortable.
Most importantly, you should never let feelings of anxiety stand between you and the dental care you need and deserve. Your oral health has a profound effect on your overall health, and it is very important to pursue treatment when it is needed. Contact us today to find out whether you are a good candidate for sedation dentistry.
Dr. Coffey will provide you with sedative tablets, which you will take prior to arriving at our office. Because you will be groggy, it is very important to have a friend, relative, or spouse drive you to your appointment and help you safely enter the building. This person should also be able to help you back into a vehicle and take you home afterward.
Although you will be sedated during treatment, you will still be able to respond to commands. You will be in a state of “twilight sleep,” very similar to the state you enter immediately prior to entering deep sleep.
The effects of the sedative will begin to wear off after your treatment, but you can expect to still feel a little sedated. After you are driven home, you should plan to spend the next several hours lying down and resting.
We take every possible measure to make all our patients feel welcome, calm, and comfortable when they visit our office, but in some cases, sedation dentistry may be the best way to ensure a pleasant treatment session. Dr. Coffey and his staff understand that you may need extra accommodations, and we are glad to offer sedation dentistry to help you achieve the utmost comfort.
