Retainers

Retainers protect the results of your orthodontic treatment and prevents your teeth from shifting back into their previous positions. Teeth have the ability to move; in fact they move ever so slightly all the time, in response to the normal forces of biting and chewing. Retainers must be worn for life, so your healthy smile is maintained for as long as possible. It can be used after treatment with braces or Invisalign. Hawley retainers come in a huge variety of colors, and can even be printed with fun designs like watermelon, tie-dye, or stars-and-stripes.

1: Hawley Retainers

A Hawley retainer is a removable appliance which uses a combination of a hard plastic or acrylic plate connected by a thin metal wire. The retainer is molded to your mouth to fit comfortably on the roof of your mouth, with the wire settled against the front of your top teeth. This appliance is worn nightly for life.

2: Bonded Retainers

A bonded retainer is a fixed appliance that is a very thin piece of wire that is attached to the back of the teeth. It won't be visible when one smiles, though one will be able to feel it with their tongue. This sensation takes a little getting used to but can get accustomed to it pretty quickly.

3: Vivera™ Retainers:

From the makers of Invisalign® aligners, Vivera™ retainers are clear retainers for teeth. Vivera retainers can be created by submitting an intra-oral scan. With proper care, a Vivera retainer can last for 3 – 9 months.
